2 Timothy

Paul’s second letter to Timothy was written not long before Paul’s execution. The letter was written from prison in Rome and contains Paul’s reflections on his life of service.

Paul wrote: “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day” (2 Timothy 4:6-8).

Paul also warned Timothy about the dangers of becoming involved in foolish arguments that do no good but only ruin the people who listen to them.

Paul’s last days were somewhat lonely; only his friend Luke stayed with him. Paul was finally beheaded by order of the emperor, Nero.
